I agree with rev here..
In my original post I said I could see that there could be some instances where it is possible to remain hidden while setting a trap. My concern is also the potential abuse of walking right up to an enemy and setting the trap when you are in a clearly open area. Another issue I have with this is that the combat ai on every creature would not account for something like this. Realistically if a goblin was walking around out in a field (presumedbly not alone) and triggered a trap it ( if it survived) or its friends would then be on highented alert. The game does not do this so there is an unfair advantage given to the stealthy char.(i'm not saying they would be able to spot them i,'m just saying that realistically they would be lookign harder which the game mechanics do not do)Players already gain a combat advantage due to the poor ai script.
It also goes to the balance issue where stealthy chars can just walk through an empty town square without being seen as jeckyl has pointed out. Stealthy is not = to invisible but i've seen it played almost as such and it just seems rediculas to me. Personally I dont have an issue with taking them on a situation by situation basis. The player can ask in the dm line if it is possible to set the trap "here" while stealthed and if it is reasonable the so be it. *shrugs*
